Cookie Policy

Effective Date: 2026-09-09

Good news: WildDex uses only strictly necessary cookies and session storage to keep you signed in. Our analytics provider (Vercel Analytics) is cookieless — no tracking cookies are placed on your device for analytics purposes.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They are widely used to make websites work correctly, remember your preferences, and provide analytics. We also use localStorage (a browser storage mechanism) for certain session data.

2. Cookies We Use

The following table lists all browser storage used by WildDex and our service providers:

3. Cookie Categories Explained

Strictly Necessary
Essential for the website to function. Cannot be disabled. These include authentication session tokens that keep you logged in and CSRF protection.
Functional
Enhance your experience but are not strictly required. If blocked, some features may not work as expected.
Analytics (Cookieless)
WildDex uses Vercel Analytics, which does not set cookies. It measures aggregate page views and performance metrics without identifying individual users or using fingerprinting.

4. Third-Party Services & Their Storage

The following third-party services may place or access storage when you use WildDex:

  • Mapbox GL — when you view the Wildlife Map, your browser loads map tiles from Mapbox servers. Mapbox may log tile request IP addresses. WildDex has disabled Mapbox telemetry event tracking (the EVENTS_URL is nulled). See the Mapbox Privacy Policy.
  • Google OAuth— if you sign in with Google, Google's OAuth service sets its own cookies on accounts.google.com per Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudinary — images are served from Cloudinary CDN. Cloudinary may set performance/CDN cookies. See the Cloudinary Privacy Policy.

5. Managing Cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings:

Please note: Deleting the WildDex session cookie (better-auth.session_token) or clearing wilddex_token from localStorage will log you out of your account.

6. Changes to This Policy

We will update this Cookie Policy to reflect any changes to the cookies or storage mechanisms we use. The Effective Date above will be updated accordingly.
